My imagination knows no boundaries. As a kid, my eyes were always glued to either the TV in my bedroom or den, or the movie screen in Plaza Bonita, a short distance from my home. The second it was over I would reenact the scenes, me often playing multiple roles. Which garnered many concerned stares and cheers, when I was performing as I walked home from the movies. It made me feel like I was part of the story, something I so desperately wanted.

 

I got to experience this same felling when I got cast in a role for the play, Let the Eagle Fly, staged by a local San Diego theatre company collaborating with my high school. That feeling of being of a story continued on other productions throughout my educational career.

 

Acting, for me, is an opportunity to step into different worlds, different characters with backstories, perspectives different than myself. I feel like the kid in a candy shop with no restrictions on what I can buy. Such diverse roles such as a suicidal teacher, the pompous actor, or the loving dead husband. Bringing these characters to life, knowing that they provide an escape from the audiences’ lives is the Luxardo cherry on the cake.
